Today we visited Flip City in Warren. My friend, Lesley, recommended it yesterday and it sounded like a lot of fun.
The place is a little difficult to find. It is on Dequindre, south of 14 mile on the east side of the road. Just south of the Penske truck Rental. You can look for a building that says "Auto Concepts" on the front and turn down that drive way. There is a sign for "Flip City" on the lawn, but I missed it twice. Here is a picture if you decide to go, to help you find the place:
They have open gym weekdays from 10:30 to 11:30 and 4:00 to 5:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00. The cost is $5 per person. I don't know if I didn't have to pay for myself or for Rosa, either way it was $5 for both of us to go in. You do have to fill out a waiver, so if it is your first time, give yourself a couple extra minutes to fill out and sign the paper. They also accept credit cards which is nice, since I almost never have any cash on me.
Rosa started with the trampolines. They have four lined up next to each other next to a huge pit of Styrofoam blocks. She was able to jump a little on her own, but she did prefer to have me on the trampoline with her to hold her hands. We also spent a lot of our time with her standing right up next to me while I bounced on my knees. She also sat on the trampoline while I jumped.
When we first arrived there weren't many other people there, but about ten minutes into the play time, there were a ton of other children. Flip city also has many different gymnastic lessons going on at the same time. It is something we will look into when Rosa is a little older. They had two floor mat areas, uneven bars, balance beams and more.
Rosa then wanted to try out the Styrofoam block pit. Wow that is deep. She easily moved around the pit, but I have to tell you it was a challenge for me. I lost my sock in the pit and had a moment of panic when I tried to get out, please don't let me be stuck in here.
There were mats all around the pit, some stacked higher than me, and children were jumping off the mats, into the pit. Looked like a ton of fun, but I could barely get Rosa to let me throw her in the pit. She did fall off one short stack of mats into the pit, but she wasn't too happy about it.
The last activity that really held her interest was the trampoline runners. They have two long trampolines that span about 1/2 the length of the gym. Rosa really liked bouncing, crawling and running on these.
Overall, we really had a great time. I am going to try it again on a weekday when there aren't any classes going on. An hour seemed like it was enough for her, but as she gets older I'm sure she will be able to play a little longer. I recommend Flip City for anyone over the age of one. The adults I saw there were having just as much, or more fun as the children. It is a great family activity.
